StructureCraft Builders

StructureCraft Builders designs and builds timber and hybrid timber-steel structures for buildings and bridges, combining structural engineering, detailing and in-house prefabrication.

StructureCraft Builders is a structural engineering and fabrication firm that operates what it calls an Engineer-Build model: design and construction are handled within a single organisation rather than handed between separate parties. Founded in 1998, the company designs and builds timber and hybrid timber-stainless steel structures for buildings and bridges, covering structural engineering, computational design, detailing and prefabrication in house. Its stated aim is to allow timber structures to meet architectural ambitions without compromising structural integrity or economic viability.

The firm employs more than 200 engineers, computational designers, detailers and craftspeople. Its headquarters is a 60,000 square foot facility in Abbotsford that houses both consulting offices and a prefabrication plant, combining advanced computational design with hands-on fabrication. The company describes its origins in a Mennonite heritage of practical ingenuity and emphasises efficiency, beauty, structural integrity and economic viability across its projects.

Notable work includes the mass timber office building T3 Minneapolis, the WoodWave timber roof for the 2010 Olympic Speedskating Oval and the Bow River Pedestrian Bridge in Banff. The company works across commercial office buildings, pedestrian bridges, sports venues and aquarium and cultural facilities, and operates in Canada, the United States and Italy, with locations in Abbotsford, Vancouver and Minneapolis.
