Magris Performance Materials

Magris Performance Materials supplies critical raw material inputs - niobium and talc - used to manufacture everyday products, and is one of the largest integrated materials suppliers in North America. The company operates seven production facilities across Canada and the United States, employs over 750 people, and is headquartered in Toronto, Ontario. Its technical work spans mining and mineral processing, performance materials science, water treatment and recycling, and the development of low-carbon and lightweighting materials.

Two product lines define the business. Niobec supplies niobium, an input used to make vehicles and other products lighter, stronger and more fuel efficient; the operations account for roughly 10% of the global niobium market. Magris Talc supplies talc to the automobile, infrastructure, building products, pharmaceuticals, paints and coatings, and paper industries, and holds approximately 50% of the North American talc market.

Environmental management is a substantial part of operations. Magris reports producing more than 3 million tonnes per annum of CO2 reduction in the auto sector through its materials, drawing over 95% of acquired power from renewable sources, and recycling more than 80% of its water. The company has invested $60MM in a state-of-the-art water treatment facility and describes itself as a net-negative carbon producer.

The leadership team has backgrounds in the mining industry, including former executives from Barrick, Falconbridge and Brookfield Infrastructure.
