The Corporation of the Town of Whitby

Municipal government serving Whitby, Ontario, providing fire, parks, waste, animal, by-law and community development services to a fast-growing Durham Region community.

The Corporation of the Town of Whitby is the municipal government serving Whitby, a community of about 140,000 people on the Lake Ontario shoreline in Durham Region, roughly one hour east of Toronto. It is the second-largest municipality in Durham Region and one of Canada's fastest-growing communities, with a population projected to exceed 200,000 by 2031. Growth on this scale sustains steady demand for skilled and trades work across municipal operations, infrastructure and public facilities.

The town delivers a broad range of local services, among them Fire and Emergency Services, Parks and Recreation (including extensive parks and trail systems), residential Waste Collection, Animal Services, By-law Enforcement and Community Development. These functions span field, operational and maintenance roles, from fire protection and emergency response to the upkeep of parks, trails and public amenities. The town also operates an award-winning marina and maintains two heritage downtowns.

Whitby describes its workplace culture around four CARE values: Collaborative, Accountable, Respectful and Engaged. It offers a hybrid work model, with staff based at locations appropriate to their roles, and an inclusive working environment. The town characterises the area as combining a small-town atmosphere with urban sophistication and a vibrant arts and culture scene.
