Diabetes Canada

National Canadian charity founded in 1953, working on diabetes research, education, advocacy and support through clinical guidelines, learning programmes and camps.

Diabetes Canada is a national charity founded in 1953 that works to improve the quality of life of people living with and affected by diabetes. Its activities span research funding, education, advocacy and direct support, and its stated aim is a world free from the effects of diabetes. The organisation has operated for more than seven decades and is headquartered in Toronto, Ontario.

Its published output includes national clinical practice guidelines for the prevention and management of diabetes, which set out comprehensive standards for care in Canada. Alongside these, Diabetes Canada runs diabetes education programmes and virtual learning platforms for people with the condition, and produces nutrition and recipe guidance. It also shares knowledge and resources with healthcare professionals to support improvements in patient care.

Community programmes form a further part of the organisation's work, including camp programmes for children and families affected by diabetes and volunteer-supported education initiatives. On the policy side, Diabetes Canada advocates for changes intended to improve outcomes for those affected by the condition, and funds research directed toward a cure. The organisation describes its approach as collaborative.
