Canadian brewing company producing craft and mainstream beers, including licensed international brands, with more than 1,100 employees across seven provinces.
Sleeman Breweries is Canada's third-largest brewing company, producing craft and mainstream beers from its operations in seven provinces. The company employs more than 1,100 people across brewing, fermentation, beverage manufacturing and licensed production. Its main brewery is in Guelph, Ontario, where Sleeman-branded beers are brewed using original family recipes preserved across generations and revived when the brewery was re-established in 1988.
The business combines owned craft brands with contract production for international names. Okanagan Spring, Unibroue and Wild Rose are craft breweries acquired by Sleeman, while Sapporo, Old Milwaukee and Pabst Blue Ribbon are produced in Canada under licence. The company was acquired by Japan's Sapporo Brewery in 2006 and continues to operate its Canadian brands.
The Sleeman name dates to 1834. A 50-year ban on brewing under that name followed the shutdown of the brewery in 1933 for bootlegging during prohibition, before the brand was revived in 1988. The company has been named one of Canada's Best Employers by Forbes and one of Canada's Greenest Employers.
