Q-Block Computing

Q-Block Computing, a 2020 University of Waterloo spinout, builds quantum timing, networking and computation hardware - including AllanQ, LuciaQ and PolarisQ - for real-world and mission-critical deployment.

Q-Block Computing is a quantum hardware startup founded in 2020 and spun out of the University of Waterloo in Waterloo, Ontario, Canada. The company builds foundational quantum infrastructure spanning timing, networking and computation, engineered for deployment in real-world and mission-critical settings rather than laboratory conditions alone.

Its product line covers three areas of that infrastructure. AllanQ is a quantum timing platform that maintains coherent time without reliance on external infrastructure, including where GPS and GNSS signals are denied or unavailable. LuciaQ is a quantum networking platform intended to preserve signal integrity in contested conditions and to distribute entanglement across remote quantum systems. PolarisQ is a containerized quantum computer built on a many-body quantum electrodynamics architecture, in which atoms and photons operate together at industrial scale.

Technical work at the company spans many-body quantum optics and electrodynamics, quantum metrology and precision sensing, quantum timing and networking, entanglement distribution, fault-tolerant computation and secure communication. Systems are designed to be deployment-ready and maintainable, with an emphasis on reliability and precision for operators who cannot afford ambiguity. Q-Block Computing describes its quantum systems as scientific instruments - microscopes for exploring the deepest structures of physical reality - and treats commercialization and scientific discovery as reinforcing activities.

The company serves research, defense and mission-critical application domains.
