Marmon Holdings, Inc. is a global industrial organisation headquartered in Chicago, Illinois, and a wholly owned subsidiary of Berkshire Hathaway. Founded in the 1950s by brothers Jay Pritzker and Robert Pritzker, the company reported annual revenue of $13 billion and employs approximately 30,000 team members worldwide.
The business comprises more than 120 autonomous operating companies grouped into 11 industry groups. Their work covers industrial manufacturing, medical technologies, water solutions, foodservice technologies, retail solutions, transportation products, rail services, electrical products, plumbing and refrigeration, metal services, industrial products and crane services, with operations conducted worldwide.
Companies within the group are run under "The Marmon Method", an operating model that leaves local management autonomy over their businesses while supplying centralised support, financial strength and strategic resources. Marmon describes itself as "the biggest small business you'll ever find". Leadership continuity is notable: chairman and chief executive Angelo Pantaleo joined in 1991 and took up his current role in December 2018.
The Marmon name traces to the Marmon Motor Car Company, which operated from 1902 to 1933 and built the Marmon Wasp, the car that won the first Indianapolis 500 race in 1911.
