Industrial Electric Manufacturing (IEM) is the largest independent full-line manufacturer of electrical distribution equipment and integrated power systems in North America. The company designs and builds custom power distribution solutions for complex requirements, with product lines that include paralleling switchgear systems and fully front-accessible arc-resistant switchgear. Its work spans sectors such as data centres, healthcare, energy, infrastructure and technology.
Founded in a barn on a family ranch in Fremont, California, IEM has been in business for more than 75 years. The company reports over 1.7 million square feet of manufacturing capacity, annual sales exceeding $1bn and more than 10,000 commissioned projects. It pioneered the use of CAD/CAM systems for electrical equipment manufacturing in 1979 and continues to develop these systems in-house.
IEM operates independently, without ownership by a larger conglomerate, and maintains a presence across North America and Europe, with roots in Silicon Valley. Its technical domains cover electrical distribution equipment design, integrated power systems, paralleling switchgear, arc-resistant switchgear design and custom engineered power solutions. The company has supplied equipment to technology pioneers including Hewlett-Packard and Apple since their startup days, and describes its approach as combining long-standing tradition with ongoing technology-driven innovation.
